The LA Times and the AP are reporting that President Bush has commuted Libby's sentence.

WASHINGTON -- President Bush commuted the sentence of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby today, sparing him from a 21/2-year prison term that Bush said was excessive.

Bush's move came hours after a federal appeals panel ruled Libby could not delay his prison term in the CIA leak case. That meant Libby was likely to have to report to prison soon and put new pressure on the president, who had been sidestepping calls by Libby's allies to pardon the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Is anybody surprised?

Not surprised because this is a Presidency without ethics. Surprised because I thought he'd wait until his August vacation at his estate in Texas.

Just rage. So far there is not a peep from the media about the fact that bush just threw more sand in the umpire's eyes concerning what is, and bushies' act today proves it IMHO, a conspiracy of treason.

looks as if the commutation of sentence rather than a full pardon is just another way to save their own hides.

I haven't seen this noted but I think the reason for a commutation is that a pardon would mean that Libby is no longer exposed to criminal sanctions and thus had no Fifth Amendment priviledges...

I do not understand........ I was raised by a strong father who led by example.  I am sick and tired of being disappointed in the example our supposed leaders project.  And most especially I cannot tolerate someone knowingly telling a lie....this is wrong.  Taking an oath, someone who is a licensed lawyer....  To be judged, convicted and sentenced and whine and cry like a little girl.....well, and you wonder why womenfolk want to see one of our own elected president!

but I am outraged again and I didn't think I had any left in me.  I realize it's probably a strategy to save their own bacon, but the injustice of it -- the privileged in this country don't have to do jail time because, well, they are the privileged, but the Faye Tuckers can just be executed, lickety split, just like that, because well, they aren't privileged.
