silence is golden...with the camera.

Well done, ePM.

These egrets nest next to the city duck pond a couple miles from where I live, and you're photographing them from about 15 feet away. Pretty much anybody who shows up in the early morning with a camera is going to get an interesting photo.

"Heron stands in the blue estuary,
 Solitary, white, unmoving for hours.
 A fish! Quick avian darting;
 The prey is captured."

"People always ask how to follow Tao. It is as easy and natural as the heron standing in the water. The bird moves when it must; it does not move when stillness is appropriate..."

"It stands unmoving in the flow of the water. It gazes unperturbed and is aware. When Tao brings it something that it needs, it seizes the opportunity without hesitation or deliberation. Then it goes back to its quiescence without disturbing itself or its surroundings."

Reminds me a little of a turkey but I think the egret's chances are better ;-)

Although I've got to admit that its simply a very good colony for egret watching — you're close, and there aren't too many obstructions. The only thing you don't have is a good place to look down into the nests so that you can see the beautiful blue eggs.
