Wed Apr 25, 2007 at 07:42:02 PM EST Remember Daniel Schulman's Mind Games (CJR May/June 2006)? His essay was linked here in a commentary Jeff Huber wrote, and in the "daily news" section:"As Gardiner further analyzed the coverage in the early days of the invasion, he saw what he believed was a pattern of misinformation being fed to the press." Or maybe an older story - John R. MacArthur's The Lies We Bought - also in CJR back in the days when the New York Times became "gray lady down" (May/June 2003): open forum :: :: :: buzz-it!
"In a disgraceful piece of stenography, Michael Gordon and Judith Miller inflated an administration leak into something resembling imminent Armageddon . ."
How those charged with "educate and inform" stepped into stupid five years ago will be covered tonight on Moyers journal. But by this weekend, even his well-publicized coverage will be, well, "history". Kinda why it seems necessary and prudent to keep those crusty old memories alive. Like this NSArchive's picture of Rummy, Gerry, and of course "aka The Dick". Two of the three wanted to claim "inherent authority" for the President to engage in wiretapping. Why - after thirty years - am I still not surprised?
