Gonzales 2.0 or, Who’s the Boss?

by rcs1

It probably won’t be much different.

Adam Lambert (ClammyC, of course) provides glimpses at the candidate pool over on ePluribus Media in "Meet the New Boss? Same As the Old Boss ..."

Frank Rich, in today's The New York Times, calls Gonzales "a nonentity like Zelig." OK... Zelig may soon fade back into nothingness, only to be replaced by a Forest Gump. Question is, which Gump?

Some of the early candidates that McClatchy mentions as potential replacements include current administration officials as well as other long-term former government officials. And even though it may be fairly premature to speculate who will be the next Attorney General, it is not premature to compile a "dossier" on some of the people who may be perceived as frontrunners to replace Gonzales as Attorney General.

So, Lambert has created mug shots of five: (1) Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, (2) SEC Chairman Chris Cox, (3) White House anti-terrorism advisor Francis Fragos Townsend, (4) former Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson and (5) former Solicitor General Theodore Olsen.

Read Meet the new boss? Same as the old boss ... and let us know...

After all, one of these may become the non-entity responsible for (cough) law and order in these here States!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070325/ap_on_go_co/fired_prosecutors
excerpt:
WASHINGTON - Republican support for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales eroded Sunday as three key senators sharply questioned his truthfulness and a Democrat joined the list of lawmakers who want him to resign over the firing of eight federal prosecutors.

"We have to have an attorney general who is candid and truthful. And if we find out he's not been candid and truthful, that's a very compelling reason for him not to stay on," said Sen. Arlen Specter (news, bio, voting record), the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which oversees the Justice Department.

Specter, R-Pa., said he would wait until Gonzales' scheduled April 17 testimony to the committee on the dismissals before deciding whether he could continue to support the attorney general. He called it a "make or break" appearance.

Thanks Clammyc for writing this article........!

I don't know about anyone else.....but whenever Alberto Gonzales testifies in front of  congress..he has that little smug grin whilst he is speaking...and you just know the guy is not being forthcoming.  I personally don't know what the deal is... loyalty or prison time?  You can't pay me enough money to go to prison.......no way......no how!  And Bush ought to just stand up and be a man instead of playing with his pud in the corner!!!!!!!!!

He's also betting that Gonzales won't resign.  Naming, vetting, discussing and confirming a replacement keeps all those issues -- Cronyism, white washing DUI etc. pasts, Torture, Habeas etc., Capital Punishment -- on the front burner, the 2000 appointment by Supremes ... examination / attention the Bush administration doesn't want.   Doesn't matter if the replacement is the best possible candidate, it still opens up the Administration's dirty linen closet.
