Missing Links: Why Walter Reed Happened

by rcs1

So, President Bush has ordered a full review of all military and veteran hospitals in the country. His decision comes, of course, in the wake of a scandal that's been churning away, picking up steam, that began nearly two weeks ago as a result of WaPo's Dana Priest and Anne Hulle looking into conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
President Bush ordered a comprehensive review Friday of conditions at the nation's military and veteran hospitals in the wake of a scandal surrounding care for wounded troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington. The White House said the president would name a bipartisan commission to assess whether the problems at Walter Reed existed at other facilities

Tomorrow, the president's radio address will address the situation.

Funny that we need to have another investigation. I think I've already figured out the problem. One look at the titles of my past posts regarding the President's budget priorities will tell you everything you need to know about why Walter Reed happened.

Follow me below the fold to see if you see what I see...

commentary :: :: :: buzz-it!
First, a few quotes from President Bush's coming radio address:

"One of my most solemn experiences as president is visiting men and women recovering from wounds they suffered in defense of country," Bush said his prepared address. "Spending time with these wounded warriors is also inspiring because so many of them bring the same courage they showed on the battlefield to their battle for recovery." ...

Bush, in his radio address, said he had asked Defense Secretary Robert Gates to make a firsthand assessment of conditions at Walter Reed. "He confirmed to me there are real problems at Walter Reed and he has taken action to hold people accountable, including relieving the general in charge of the facility. "As we work to improve conditions at Walter Reed, we are also taking steps to find out whether similar problems have occurred at other military and veteran hospitals," the president said.

"We will use the commission's recommendations as part of our ongoing effort to improve our service to our nation's veterans," Bush said.

Now for my posts from the past 12 months:

Is it just me, or does anyone else see an underlying trend in the titles?

Could there be one possible answer buried in there to the problems uncovered at Walter Reed and other military hospitals across the nation?

That sucks!  Good post and will be nice to see what they come up with in their investigation.  Despite all the rhetoric we have heard for the last four years about improving the care for veterans, anyone who has been paying attention knows that has been a whole lot of hot air.

...all day from 9 to 4, and it takes me ~2 hrs to drive one way to get to the satellite campus. But, it's a good class. Special section called 'Iraq on Film' -- learning a lot.

Have a good weekend, standingup!

Here's the link to over at the big orange... recommends never hurt and hopefully will keep the present administration once again passing the buck.
The Missing Link

Ooops.  Letting my irritation with the tactics of blame get the better of me.

This sounds a lot like code for privatizing veteran health care.

They'll commission a study, say veteran services need to be turned over to the private sector "who will do a better job" and where at first care will cost less. But eventually, costs will skyrocket to much much more than if they had just funded quality health care to begin with.

Funny, how all of our ears are tuned for the code... the speaking to the base.

Is there any base left?

Supposedly So Rich, should have the Best Veterans Hospital Care in the World!

Not only to treat those who serve but as a Research Facility, Bar None, for the types of injuries incurred, physically and mentally, which in turn would give a Better Understanding for Care of others, Across the Board, leading not only to Better Health Care Here but Around The World!!

After all, isn't that what this country is supposed to be all about!

To Bring Back This Billboard:

As Major Bobby Hanafin put it in This VFA Post, it was funded by a number of Veterans Groups and put up in various area's in the States!

So Pony Up Civilians!
