Scorching August!

Hat tip to rba for this month's blogad (Greyhawk's is in the pipeline for September).  Got a great idea or image for a future blogad?  Join in and post your ideas and graphics.

One year ago, in August, this ePluribus Media Community site went live.  We never recorded the number of visitors to the Investigates site or the podcasts, which are both "unmetered" but we just checked and as of August 2 5, Community has had over 136,000 140,000 visits in its first year, and in this past week averaged -- just under 700 1010 visits a day.

It's all your work that makes it happen!
            more below the fold.

Community News

Your many contributions of research, writing, server space, graphics, audio equipment, time, editing, graphics, data input, site maintenance, frequent flyer miles, custom programming, photography ... keep the effort to get credible news out there.

Ilona and Cho were interviewed by the Canadian Rabble Radio, you can hear them on episode 25 interview, about halfway through the program.

Another noteworthy anecdote from YKos: JeninRI met Ambassador Joe Wilson, who upon learning she is with ePluribus Media, complimented her and us, saying "ePluribus? You guys do good work."

skippy upon meeting the ePluribus gang at YKos had this to say:

first let me enumerate the ePlurbis Media kids: janet, tim, denise & others, they are my personal blog heros, because they are real journalists, and not snarky pundits like most of us.
Of course, we all like to think that skippy is one of US.

The group that went to the Media Giraffe conference heard some great reports, such as this one in TheNewStandard:

ePluribus Media -- You really have to explore this collaborative journalism project to get a real grasp of it. We're hoping to brush up against these folks online in the near future.
...
The ePluribus folks have posted a far-more-thorough review, including a slew of great photos.

Different ePluribus Media folks have been self-organizing to do some incredible work...some planned and some, unfortunately, unplanned.

Kudos especially to Radish, ubikkibu, roxy, lefty, standingup,  and Cho who spent July 27th, 28th and 29th restoring three of the four ePluribus Media sites hit by our Voxel hard disk crash. (The fifth site, Podcasts, was never affected as KT donates that site on another server space.) And to the countless other members who stood by and contributed constructive, positive energy, Thank you!  The Journal, Investigates, and Community are all back up and running.  Timelines, although all the data is safe, was hardest hit and the customized display functions will take a little longer to restore.  We are thinking about instituting some ePluribus Media awards, the Roxy and the Radish, to present ePluribus Media folk who have contributed so much to keep us going. We will keep you posted.

You may have noticed some additions to the blogroll on the Community site.

wanderindiana has been organizing the list, adding blogs of new members, and also a new section of online media and news sites, dedicated to the straight reportage side of community/citizen journalism. wanderindiana has also hooked us up with blogads on the Community site, so we have an additional source of most welcome funding.

With so many great pieces on the Community site, we've surely missed some quality work.  Please post links to any noteworthy commentaries we missed in the comments below.

Volunteer Opportunities

Avahome has been a one-person energizer bunny recruiting and welcoming volunteers.  If anyone wants to help, post below or email her at epluribusvolunteers@gmail.com

Our Timeline databases and stories are heating up, so JeninRI needs more volunteers to help fact check stories and the timelines. If you can help, contact her at Timelines@epluribusmedia.org.

Don't be shy about volunteering for the data input for the timelines, editing, fact-checking, creating graphics for stories, writing book reviews, researching or as campaign season heats up, interviewing candidates! You can volunteer by posting a comment below, contacting us at epluribusvolunteers@gmail.com or editors@epluribusmedia.org.

If you have a tip, please submit it to leads@epluribusmedia.org.

If you have a story you'd like to submit for publication as an ePluribus Media article in the Journal (as opposed to posting as a commentary on Community), submit it to editors@epluribusmedia.org. For information and some guidelines, check out the submissions guidelines.

And don't forget, if you have any book buying planned, consider Powell's.  Clicking through the Powell's bookstore ad at the bottom of the home page on the ePMedia Community site gives us 7.5%!

And of course, consider donating to keep the servers humming. We can really use the help!

Corny as it sounds, it's true: You make the "us" in ePluribus Media a reality.

RBA - ya done good, real good.

It just made me smile.  It's going to be tough to top it.
