Lieberman, Lamont, and the Fishheads

by rcs1

The Kiss Float... you have probably have seen it 32 times by now... Jane of FireDogLake brought her poodles and marched with it and with the CTBloggers in the Willimantic Boom Box parade.

You may be scratching your head thinking you vaguely remember hearing about Willimantic from somewhere...And indeedy, you may have... last summer BH and I traveled the highways and byways of the old milltown in search of frogs and reported our findings (links to the photographic evidence below the below).

Willimantic is a tad, shall we say, quirky? The Boom Box parade is, in the words of someone over on MyLefNutmeg, open-source. Open Source? Quirky? We of course went.  Got video of Joe, Ned, the water balloon and soaker fights between parade watchers and "marchers" -- a thin line indeed.

With a hat tip to ilona for treatment ideas ... photos of the parade below the fold. All photos (c) 2006 by BH.

commentary :: :: :: buzz-it!
Woman in the crowd flashes the peace sign to the Kiss float.  Hot day for the Ms. Ponce (Puerto Rico sister city). The Fishheads are a twenty-year tradition in the Boom Box parade. The CT-NOW Statue of Liberty wears the Ned Lamont tee-shirt.    And the back of the CTblogger's tee-shirt says "Connecticut Can Change America/CT AFL-CIO."  Parade route was jammed -- and as you can see, hard to distinguish paraders from watchers.  A one person float (cardboard box car in the Lamont group).

Sound Check:  Noise levels.   Joe got a nice cheer.  The kiss float got a nice cheer.  But hands down, the warmest reception was for the Lamont crew... "Ned...Ned...Ned...Ned."

Oh, and in case you missed the frogs...

The first of the Willimantic frogs were posted in a diary at Booman and then in a comment here Frog Marching for Booman.
The Part II frogs are here Frog Marching Part II.
The Part III frogs are in this commentary Frog Redux.
Frogmarching Part IV is here:Frog March For Booman -- Part IV

I think you may have captured that "open source" spirit, Cho!

That turquoise dress - hmmm - wonder what the neighbors'd think if I went out to the mailbox in that.....barefoot.

Sigh - i guess I can't, don't have a tiara...

it's very "mardi gras" in that folks, um er, "marching," throw candy, beads, to the "watchers."

Someone invariably walks the route and distributes plastic bags to the kids for them to put their loot into.

The firetruck guys (well, and others) engage in water fights, which everyone loves, cause it keeps things "cool."
