Summer Conventions/Conferences

YKos Convention
Dateline: June 8-11 - Vegas.
It's coming up quick!
Compliments of the hardworking Susie Dow, wanderindiana, standingup, kfred, and timroff, we have a table and are listed as an exhibitor. Lots of ePMedia folk have volunteered their time -- Kay Shepherd might be podcasting; ilona, inquisitive raven, susie dow, LeftyLimblog, JeninRI, standingup. BarbinMD, DEFuning and timroff will be "personing" the table, so stop by and say hi.
And don't forget the reminder from Timroff:
"I will definitely hosting the Happy Hour on Friday Night from 6 - 8 pm in my room in the Riviera."
Media Giraffe
Dateline: June 29th - July 1 - Amherst, MA.
We've been invited to be on the Citizen Journalism panel. Interesting tracks and speakers (Helen Thomas is the keynote, the blogosphere's Frederick Clarkson, among others, will be attending).
Best yet: As of this writing, Ilona Meagher, Mike Cote, Todd Johnston, and possibly Greyhawk will be representing ePluribus Media at the conference. In case any of you want to check it out for a day, there are day rates available. The early registration period ended May 29th, but according to the website, there's still room.
more ePMedia newsy stuff below the fold.

Call for Fact Checkers

ePluribus Media needs volunteers to help fact check stories and the timelines. Lefty Limblog has been moving the original Timelines Display pages over to Ajax-enabled Timelines Display pages which provide a much more dynamic display interface for our various timelines projects, while saving both CPU and bandwidth on our server.
JeninRI needs help with fact checking our Journal stories and the timelines entries. If you can help, contact her at
Timelines@epluribusmedia.org.
ePMedia folks and Political Activism
Brian Keeler is still running for NY State Senate. He's looking for tech help, volunteers, contributions and plain old support at Keeler2006.com
The Patriotic 505:
One of our ePMedia folk cast a delegate vote for Ned Lamont in his bid for the Democratic nomination for CT Senator, currently held by Joe Lieberman, and was there on May 19th to snap this photo of the candidate after the roll call vote. Awesome video of the rollcall here.

505 delegates or 33.4 percent gave Lamont more than double what was needed to be able to primary (15%).
Lamont is seen here, thanking those who, in the words of one delegation chair on the video: "cast their votes for a modern day American patriot."
Bring us up to date on what you are doing. Got stories of going off to the campaign front? Post a comment below and let us know or tell us how we can help too!
Stories, Research and May doings

Journal Stories You May have Missed:
- Terri Emerick's Journal story Part D: Rx for Disaster
-
Susie Dow's One Missing; One Dead is the first in a series tracking down the bizarre and tragic story behind the shifting shell game of companies created to profit from Iraq war.
A comment from perspera in one of the open threads on Dkos sums up the amazing work Susie Dow has done.
Susie Dow from ePluribus has done some exceptional work on a very complicated story about a missing contractor doing work in Iraq. Her diary made the rec list for a little bit but I hope that some more people will take a look at what it took the diarist a year to piece together. The story is fascinating and ones like them appear all too rarely.
- Kay Shepherd continues the podcast interviews with Michael Hyatt, a documentary photojournalist working with No More Deaths (No Mas Muertes) at the Arizona border. ePluribus Media volunteers transcribed the interview and XicanoPwr provided the Spanish translation. The Human Side of the Border Story.
And May commmentaries at the Community site ...
- Craig Weiler brings us his Citizen Journalism expertise from his stint as a blogger on Bayosphere in his commentaries Making Citizen Journalism Scale, Attracting Volunteers to Citizen Journalism, The New Addiction: War of Witchcraft and The Comments Section: Flamethrower Optional
- intranets has been putting open source research together in such commentaries as More support of Vets... VA loses personal records of 26.5 million Vets
- Terri Emerick has been prolific in her series on health care, zooming in on issues of MediCare and the cuts that are costing Americans ... even their lives. See her latest forays: Index of Terri Emerick's Commentaries.
- XicanoPwr gave us the real story behind The fuss over Cinco de Mayo, and not only did we groan, but so did all the folks who followed the links from the top ten Google news stories.
- LandofEnchantment's been on the chase of the big game -- Pombo. Check out her latest Money Isn't Everything. Or is it? (Pombo by the numbers)
- BarbinMD's fine eye for the news keeps gives us the "big picture" view: Memorial Day Editorials: From the Poetic to the Inane and Five Memorial Day Speeches by George W. Bush just two worthy to be read and reread.
- Polydactyl looks at the trials of registering a child in public schools Catch-66: Polydactyl vs. Board of Education.
- Jeff Huber continues his amazing analysis of the run up to the Iraq War as well as the tenuous legal grounds for much of this administration's activities -- index of Jeff Huber commentaries.

Other May Doings at ePluribus Media

We had some great contributions and suggestions for new promo blogads. The lioness at top was generated by a brainstorm from ilona, and there are other ideas from Greyhawk, intranets, and polydactyl in the pipeline. Join in and post your ideas and graphics.
Timroff is constantly expanding the offerings at the store... he's got new t-shirts for us and gift cards too.
Avahome requests that new people on the ePluribus Media Investigates site fill out their profiles with their skills and research interests. That way, other researchers can help assist!
