NO, NO, NO TO ALITO (ACTION!)

by rcs1

Despite several Democratic congress critters leaking to the press that Alito might not be a shoo-in, we have the example of Diane Feinstein, one of the bluest of the blue states, seeming to accept Alito's excuse that what he wrote in 1985 about chomping on the bit to overturn Roe -- well, he was simply lying to secure a post in the Reagen regime.

A good prosecuting attorney would ask, "You say you were lying then, Mr. Alito. Are you also lying now?"

It's apparent we have to hold everybody's feet to the fire on Alito -- dems and rethugs both.

And a good start are the actions below.

I have a sneaky suspicion, though, that the Republicans don't really want to overturn Roe.  That doesn't mean we shouldn't fight to protect it, and to get Plan B approved, however!  Still, if they win on Roe, they will lose the one issue that really holds their followers together... and they will provide the left with an issue that will melt it together.

to overturn Roe v Wade.

Personally? I am not willing to take that chance! There are just too many raqdicals on the far right that pull the strings of their politicians to take that chance, IMHO.

Add to that Alito's personal views about womens rights and abortion rights (to mention a couple of issues) and you get a very dangerous combination.

MoveOn.org has also sought signatures for a petition that they planned to present to members of the Senate at the beginning of November. They had a goal of 500,000 signatures and are currently reporting they've reached 104% of that goal.

I don't know if they're still collecting signatures, but they have good links with more reasons to stop the confirmation of Alito.

I don't think anyone is going to get a truthful answer out of Alito, which is an accurate reflection of his sponsors.  We are getting only obfuscation and smoke from Bush/Cheney/Rummy/Rice (gosh, that sounds like a side dish at a drunk tank buffet).  I propose that Congress vote to suspend Bush's right to nominate any further SCOTUS appointees while he is under investigation for manipulating the intel that led us into the war in Iraq.

More people fighting Alito...

Over at the frog pond we are working on something. Maybe you would be interested in taking a look?

It is going to be all about protesting Alito. And we are looking for help in any way possible from everyone across the Left Blogosphere Think Tank. We want this to be a collaborative effort.

Writing, artwork, editing, flyers, cross-posting, etc.

The bulk of the idea is already up in that diary but we still have lot's of details to follow up on. This is going to be even bigger than Operation Yellow Feather was. (We hope!)
