Operation Yellow Feather: Day 3 (update)

by rcs1

Update [2005-11-23 14:29:6 by Cho]: moved the feather to the top, apologies to Man Eegee, but didn't want to run into ilona's commentary. Thnks for understanding!

Ladies, Gentlemen and Trolls:

I think it's safe to declare victory for Operation Yellow Feather's original objective.

We have "Mean Jean" Schmidt on the run!

Schmidt, who sent Murtha a note of apology on Friday moments after her speech, said in a statement Tuesday that she never intended to attack Murtha personally.

"While I strongly disagree with his policy, neither Representative Bubp nor I ever wished to attack Congressman Murtha," she said. "I only take exception to his policy position."

Bubp said in a statement of his own Tuesday that his conversation with Schmidt "was based strictly on the proposal to immediately withdraw our troops from Iraq and the consequences of such a proposal."

Schmidt declined during an interview on Cincinnati radio station WLW to discuss her fellow Republican's denial: "I was repeating words. I am not going to get into that debate."

Neither Schmidt nor Bubp returned calls left at their offices Tuesday.

An update on the protest coalition and links to the downloads below the fold:

commentary :: :: :: buzz-it!
Over the past three days, we have seen this protest spread like wildfire across the lefty blogosphere.  Several large blog communities joined forces to say "Enough is Enough!" to the chicken hawks.

We will not take their hateful rhetoric any longer, and if it takes something snarky like a yellow feather to shut their holes, then so be it!

We have expanded our reach:

RenaRF's blog entry is also gathering comments, and my site received a decent amount of hits yesterday.

Great work, now the question is:  where does all of this lead?

My suggestion is, keep a lookout for any outrageous behavior by local (or national) Chicken Hawks.  Here's a prime example:

On the November 21 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, host Rush Limbaugh asserted that Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) -- who on November 17 called for the immediate redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq -- is "just the useful idiot of the moment."

Limbaugh added that people "portray [Murtha] as a former hawk," and asked: "What kind of serious hawk calls for withdrawals like this?" Limbaugh then added: "I don't think he ever has been a hawk ... in his career ... as a congressman."

(emphasis mine, through uncontrollable spitting, gagging and curses)

This has become a cross-blog protest as you can tell by the list at the top of the diary.  I'll try to answer any questions, but I hope you'll join us in this easy way to send a strong message that we have had enough!

It's a great idea and Schmidt needs to be called on the carpet. Send her your feathers!

DKos also alerted us to a great tool for LTE Campaigns provided by the DNC.  The time is now to send our message loudly that we want our country back!

Feathers!  Letters!  Faxes!  Emails!
Enough is Enough!

Okay, I'm done shouting.  Thanks again  :)

we thought the feathers were simple and made a strong statement.  At any rate, they're a cool conversation piece.

Obviously I am avoiding the Thanksgiving dinner preparations that are needed to be done about the household! However, it would be cool, Man Eegee, if yellow feathers could be making their appearances all over the internet.

Schmidt may be a freshman, but she's a tool...and this "swift boating" smacks of MacCarthyism.  Please feel free to use these images.

Really glad you posted this here...

Hard to believe, but I have been so busy I would have missed otherwise.

Oh, and I like yellow feathers much better than the white ones everyone was sending Jonah a while back.

Yellow, yellow elephants, yellow chickenhawks.

Yes.  Yellow.

It's hard to say what the impact will be, but it seems that Jean is pretty shaken up by this whole ordeal.  According to the Cincinatti Enquirer she didn't know Murtha was a Marine.  Can you believe that?

Here's a link to the full article.  Outrageous...

So I just print one of these pdf files and send it to her?  Cool.

thanks for participating.  Spread the word to other aspiring activists.  Feel free to send your local Chicken Hawks a notice that you're keeping watch of their words very carefully.

I sent JD Hayworth a couple of feathers because he engineered the ploy in the House on Friday that derailed Murtha's ammendment.  This pack of GOPers is an endless supply of blather.

Jean Schmidt, who narrowly defeated Paul Hackett, makes a blunder such as not knowing Murtha is a Marine Vet??

We should send her feathers by the caseloads, not only for being a chicken hawk, but for not doing her research.

good people in the 2nd cong. district of Ohio are experiencing ulcers from their buyers' remorse.  Hopefully they won't make the same mistake next November.

Talk about out-of-touch, I suppose she learned the tactic from the top of her party's ticket.

to enable the idiots' 'official sanction' after which they could come back with their bogus alternative "withdraw now" bill that, lacking the considerations Murtha was making, was one that could be voted down and at face value, ascribed to the Dems.

'face value' intended to mean, "as assessed by the average soudbyte-feeding consumer of American media".

unfortunately i missed getting the detail on the whole thing, txj brought me up to speed on key points.

this is probably a bad attitude on my part but with the research efforts in which i'm involved, i've come to assume that GOP used as an adjective with Ohio to describe a politician automatically should indicate at high risk of recidivism.

i expect that Jean Schmidt wanted to fast-track her rise within the party, to the inner circle, and that this was her 'jumping in' moment.

Ohh how about Rush "Pill Popper" Limbaugh how for his silly ass comment:

Murtha "just the useful idiot of the moment"

We all know he is one of the biggest chickhawks. What was that excuse he used to get out of Vietnam? Oh yeah, he had a bum knew.

contact info for Rush and we can add him to our target list.  I can't believe how disgusting these fools act when confronted with the truth.  Support the troops?  I guess that only applies to troops that they agree with...

Thanks for the link XP, from one Xicano to another (i'm of the Arizona variety here, 8 generations)

hehe, I work right up the street from St. Mary's.  They've done alot of work to the hospital, I've been impressed.  How very cool, my family roots come from the copper belt area north of Tucson; we were the blacksmiths of the tent cities back in the 1800's  :O)

Thank you to all of you at ePluribus Media for picking up Operation Yellow Feather and allowing Man Eegee to post this diary.

With 6 major lefty communities picking up on this cause it is a great example of how all of the Progressive and Liberal Blogs can all work together to get something done right. (err, left?)

Our goal is to uncover the truth.   (Check out our timelines -- in the menu upper right  -- if you haven't had the chance.  Every event in them is fact-checked and sourced to provide honest data in a searchable format.)  Although many of us are admittedly partisan, we like to think that we research any government propaganda, whether perpetrated by Democrats or Republicans.

Thanks for posting the news of Operation Yellow Feather here.

But I wouldn't call over a 100 miles "Just up the road." (100.67 miles and 1 hour and 58 minutes by Mapquest. lol)

Of course, my wife is always looking for an excuse to head to Boston and since Sturbridge is in the right direction I could probably make it there with a little advance notice.

different sites, there's one thing I've noticed that unifies us:  we are all looking for a reason to hope.  Our country has been under a dark cloud for the past five years and we are starting to organize in a powerful way to sweep the Neocons out of power next year.  Thanks to everyone for your help in restoring my hope in our collaboration.

It can be done.

It's from Wayward Son's diary: Even more lies from Mean Jean

And as Silence and the other great ePMedia researchers keep teaching me... here's the original transcript House Republicans Respond to Murtha

On Thursday, November 17, she was one of the speakers at a Republican press conference called to discuss the Iraq pullout.  At that conference, fellow Republican David Dreier said "I have the utmost respect for my colleague Jack Murtha. My father was a Marine. Jack Murtha was a very proud Marine. And I have worked with him for the last quarter century on the struggle for liberation in Central America and in other spots throughout the world -- in military conflicts.  And he was the chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. He's now the ranking minority member of that subcommittee."

http://www.loganselm.blogspot.com/  - Hypothetically Speaking.  This Ohio blog has loads on "mean Jean".
I have to personally say that she "owns" her statement.  There is no turning back....she needs to go back to Kindergarten and sit with the kids for a while to get a perspective on life.

to your operation?

I just saw the Editors and Publishers blurb on her:

Her latest column rips war critics such as Murtha as "traitors." Here are some highlights:

"It is simply a fact that Democrats like Murtha are encouraging the Iraqi insurgents when they say the war is going badly and it's time to bring the troops home. Whether or not there is any merit to the idea, calling for a troop withdrawal - or 'redeployment,' as liberals pointlessly distinguish - will delay our inevitable victory and cost more American lives....
