Wed Apr 25, 2007 at 07:42:02 PM EST Remember Daniel Schulman's Mind Games (CJR May/June 2006)? His essay was linked here in a commentary Jeff Huber wrote, and in the "daily news" section:"As Gardiner further analyzed the coverage in the early days of the invasion, he saw what he believed was a pattern of misinformation being fed to the press." Or maybe an older story - John R. MacArthur's The Lies We Bought - also in CJR back in the days when the New York Times became "gray lady down" (May/June 2003): open forum :: full story :: (new) (1 comment, 203 words in story) :: buzz-it!

"Counterinsurgency strategies must also include, above all, efforts to establish a political environment that helps reduce support for the insurgents and undermines the attraction of whatever ideology they may espouse. In certain Sunni Arab regions of Iraq, establishing such a political environment is likely of greater importance than military operations, since the right political initiatives might undermine the sanctuary and assistance provided to the insurgents."

Mon Feb 12, 2007 at 02:31:05 PM EST ![]() Joe Garofoli/SFChron: Tonight at 11, news by neighbors.
"Steve Spendlove realizes that after last month's layoffs of most of the news-gathering staff at tiny KFTY-TV in Santa Rosa there will be less local coverage. The Clear Channel executive overseeing the station knows there won't be reporters to investigate local scandals, let alone do those fluffy woman-turns-100 features that make TV anchors cock their heads and smile at the end of a newscast." Dan Eggen/WP: U.S. Attorney Firings Set Stage for Congressional Battle.
"Gonzales and his aides say that they intend to seek Senate approval for every new U.S. attorney and that the old system, which allowed federal judges to appoint replacements, has both practical and constitutional problems. Justice Department officials also defend Gonzales's right to fire U.S. attorneys at will and have suggested that each of the recently dismissed prosecutors had performance problems." Then again - like DT used to say - communication between two people is one of the hardest things to do. Helps to speak the same language, and always put it in writing. open forum :: discuss :: (new) (4 comments) :: buzz-it!
