I just finished reading Lakoff's very fine analysis of the success of Bushco in ramming through many of the goals of the conservative movement at Buzzflash
and this article dovetails with it very nicely.  This was no accident that they signed this white supremist xenophobic letter--it is merely the new spin on the old Lee Atwater inspired "Southern Strategy" to stir up racial divisions to galvanize the white Southern vote.  Them boys'll get in their trucks and go to the polls bygod if they think this'll keep the "mudraces" at bay.  Those are not my feelings folks, but they are the kind of rhetoric I hear everyday here in the South.  The Southern Strategy works.  Now, someone just needs to tell those who vote in the Hispanic and African American and Korean and Vietnamese communities  what the real story is because they all tend to want to join the Winners' Club and increasingly vote Republican.

It is thought that these provisions of the VRA that are up for renewal might be the only thing to stop poll-tax in the future 'South'.  Supremes said the VoterID thing is ok, so this VRA clauses might have been able to stop them from moving around precincts and not providing for working bilingual ballots.
